Description
Barbara Pompili has been involved in environmental politics for over 20 years. As Minister for Ecological Transition from 2020 to 2022, responsible for energy, transportation, housing, water, biodiversity, circular economy, natural and industrial risks, and international climate and environmental negotiations, she led the adoption of the Climate and Resilience Act following the Citizens’ Climate Convention. She previously served as Secretary of State for Biodiversity (2016–2017), Member of Parliament for the Somme region in France (2017–2020 and 2020–2023), Chair of the National Assembly’s Committee on Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, and then as a rapporteur on the Committee on Foreign Affairs. As Special Advisor for International Affairs at the General Secretariat for Ecological Planning (2023–2025), she was also Special Envoy of the President of the Republic for the One Planet Summit on the theme of water. Barbara Pompili is the Chair of the OECD Water Governance Initiative since 2022. Since March 2025, she is the French Ambassador for the Environment.
