La Tour du Valat

Project Leader in Water Management

Description

Julie Régis is Project Leader for Water Management at the Tour du Valat Institute. She holds a master’s degree in hydrogeochemistry and a PhD in the biogeochemistry of nutrients and trace metals in Mediterranean lagoons. Her experience enables her to lead interdisciplinary projects on the salinization of agricultural land in the Camargue and the eutrophication of Mediterranean lagoon ecosystems. She is involved in the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive to evaluate the ecological status of lagoons and assists lagoon managers in understanding and reducing eutrophication. She is particularly involved in several “One Health” projects through the Zone Atelier CNRS Camargue (ZACAM) and organized a workshop on pollution sources and pathways in lagoon areas for the RESCOM project. Recently, she has been working on the Petit Saint Jean farm to identify ways of addressing salinization processes while pursuing agroecological objectives in the context of global warming. One of her personal missions is to translate invisible environmental processes for local stakeholders and land users.
