Lennart Olsson, professor of Geography at Lund University in Sweden, was the founding Director of LUCSUS 2000-17. His research focuses on the politics of climate change in the context of poverty, food insecurity and ill-health in sub-Saharan Africa, and most recently on the transition from annual monocultures to perennial polycultures in agriculture. He is a board member of The Land Institute since 2019 and a close research collaborator. For almost 10 years (2011-19) he was Coordinating Lead Author of two IPCC assessments (AR5 and SRCCL). In 2023 he was awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for the PERENNIAL project.
