President
Born in Le Mans (Sarthe) in 1960 and grandson of a farmer, Stéphane Le Foll holds a BTS in Agriculture, a DEA in Economics (1988) and a professional diploma from the CNAM (1993).
Professor of economics (1983-88), he was a lecturer at the University of Nantes (1998-99).
Municipal councilor of Longnes (1983-95), he was elected municipal councilor of Le Mans and vice-president of Le Mans Métropole from 2001.
Director of the cabinet (1997-2008), when François Hollande was head of the French Socialist Party (PS).
Member of the European Parliament (2004-2012), he was elected deputy for the Sarthe in 2012.
Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (2012-2017), he was also government spokesman from 2014, under the presidency of François Hollande.
At the origin of the "4 per 1000" Initiative at the COP 21 in Paris, he was elected Vice President in 2016, then President in 2020.
Re-elected Deputy in 2017, he leaves the National Assembly in 2018, after his election as Mayor of Le Mans. He is also Chairman of the Metropole of Le Mans.
