Description

Dr Sam Kanyamibwa is the Founder of the Albertine Rift Conservation Society (ARCOS) and is the Chief Executive Officer since 2010. Sam is a professionally qualified conservationist, with over 35 years of experience in conservation at international level and particularly in Africa. He has worked for Wildlife Conservation Society in early 1990s, UNEP-World Conservation Monitoring Centre and WWF before focusing fully on leading ARCOS Network. Established in 1995 and with three international awards today, ARCOS is a regional organisation involved in biodiversity and ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture and community livelihoods, education for sustainable development, and climate resilience and green economy. Sam is an ecologist and completed his PhD in Natural Population Dynamics in Montpellier. Sam is a passionate farmer himself, and ARCOS engages over 100,000 farmer households in sustainable agriculture. He holds MSc in Evolutionary Ecology at the Université des Sciences et Techniques du Languedoc (USTL), Montpellier in France, where he also completed his PhD in Natural Population Dynamics.
