Description

Sarah Msambira grew up on a small soya farm in Salima, Malawi, where she watched her family navigate the interconnected challenges of poor soils, limited resources, and markets that were never built for smallholder farmers. That experience drove her to study agronomy at Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and, eventually, join the founding team at Small Farm Cities Africa, where she now serves as Director of Agriculture. To date, she has grown over 1,000 metric tons of fresh vegetables, and housed 50 families in eco-homes built from local soils, trained 2,000+ farmers and mentored 80+ young agronomists, and has been recognized as an Obama Foundation Africa Leader (2026) and a Mastercard Emerging Public Leader. She leads the company's regenerative farming model, in which families build homes from interlocking stabilized soil bricks, cultivate land using biochar, compost, and agroforestry, and sell into formal retail and hospitality markets through an integrated enterprise incubator.
